Juxtatonal is a contemporary performance group formed by Jocelyn Zelasko (voice) and me. This name references our interests in juxtapositions, especially those of tonality and atonality. Our diverse repertoire reflects this by exploring the proximity of people, instruments, and performance of sounds. As a commissioning ensemble, JUX seeks living composers interested in pushing creative boundaries. Drawn to art that combines intensity and playfulness, JUX provides space for their listeners to question expectations.

The topic of my PhD dissertation is temporality in the music of Lee Hyla, advancing my own analytical framework based on linguistic theories and examining the implications of popular music influences in classical art music. In general, my research focuses on the interrelation between the perception of music and language.
