Felsenfeld Commission

I am organizing a consortium to commission a new solo cello work from composer Daniel Felsenfeld. Danny is a fantastic composer who has not yet written for solo cello, and I am thrilled to lead the consortium for this new work.

More information can be found at the Felsenfeld Commission page.

Juxtatonal

In pursuit of thought-provoking creativity, Jocelyn Zelasko (voice) and I have created a contemporary performance group called Juxtatonal. This name references the juxtaposition of the preconceived notions of tonality and atonality. JUX’s diverse repertoire reflects this juxtaposition by exploring the proximity of people, instruments, and performance of sounds. As a commissioning ensemble, JUX seeks living composers interested in pushing creative boundaries. Drawn to art that combines intensity and playfulness, JUX provides space for their listeners to question expectations.

Dissertation

Having completed my coursework and passing my Ph.D. candidacy exams in the spring of 2017 at NYU, I am now working to write my dissertation. I am writing about temporality in the music of Lee Hyla, advancing my own analytical framework based on linguistic theories and examining the implications of popular music influences in classical art music.

If you would like to know more, please contact me directly. I am always happy to discuss these ideas further.

Lee Hyla Concert

As part of my Ph.D. research into Lee Hyla, I am currently developing an event centered on the music of Lee Hyla for 2018. In addition to performing some of his chamber works, I will discuss some of my research.

I will pitch this project to universities and venues across the United States, so please stay tuned as the project develops.
